Cables Vs Wifi

Bosch Alarm in two-storey scenario

The difficulty of running cables in a completed house.

If your home is completed to lock-up stage then often its not possible to connect downstairs using cables so WiFi is deemed to be the best way to provide a connection to detectors or other devices in a scenario where the main alarm panel must be installed upstairs but you still need sensors downstairs.

Some external walls may allow access from top to bottom (using the wall cavity) but this usually wont make installation possible without removing plaster or drilling large holes to fish out cable where otherwise you would need to remove cladding or brick to do so. So WiFi is the cheaper solution in most cases.

In the diagram below the green paths are possible cable paths and relatively easy to achieve.  Red paths are virtually impossible without extensive effort and time and most likely, expense.

The diagram shows how a Wi-Fi set-up would look with WiFi detectors downstairs being in constant communication with the WiFi transmitter upstairs.

External PVC duct makes it possible to connect with cable easily and includes drilling through external wall to thread the cable at lower level.  Again to try to avoid using conduit would be time consuming and relatively expensive and may end up being impossible anyhow.

Wireless Kit - optional remote control.

The wireless receiver (pictured) is included in the wireless kit and you can opt for additional remote control/s which are useful for turning the alarm on and off from your car or generally without using the keypad or mobile app when you’re within range (up to 50m).

If your house is still in building stage and still has exposed wall cavities (no plaster in place) we can pre-wire, in preparation for the final installation if you prefer a wired solution.  Once the plaster is on then refer to the above information for options.
